20 HP Tractor

Farm mechanization has immensely contributed towards increased agricultural production through timely farm operations such as tillage, sowing and harvesting etc. Considering the enthusiastic response of the farmers to the ideas of farm mechanization, CSIR-CMERI has developed a Swaraj Tractor, which is most suitable for small and medium land holdings. CMERI has rendered sterling services to the Nation through the design and development of the Swaraj Tractor which was synonymous with the Green Revolution.

In 1970s, with the onset of Green Revolution, the fledgling nation needed both manpower and machines for the agricultural sector. CSIR made an impressive debut with SWARAJ, a 20 hp tractor. The knowhow of SWARAJ was released exclusively to Punjab Tractors Ltd., Chandigarh who has been successfully manufacturing and selling it since 1974. The License was valid w.e.f.1974-1984 for a period of 10 years  The SWARAJ tractor helped user in mechanized agriculture. Today, nearly one million SWARAJ tractors till the Indian soil. 

Later on, 20 HP TRACTOR was transferred on 17 JUNE, 1999  to International Tractors Limited (ITL), Hoshiarpur and started manufacturing and selling successfully since 2002. Assignment Deed was renewed w.e.f. 11 July, 2022 to 12 July, 2032 for a further period of 10 years.

It incorporates a new finger tip single lever automatic depth-cum-position control hydraulic system for better working on mounted implements. It is cheaper and suitable for medium and small farmers. The standard PTO can also be used for operating threshers, pumps and other attachments. It is also suitable for operation of Rotillor and Combine Harvester.
