| Abstract: | Process for the production of graphite oxide starting from commercial grade natural graphite flake without any pre-treatment describes the oxidation of 200 g graphite using 400 g KMn04 as oxidizing agent in 3 liters concentrated H2S04 only at two different temperatures at 0-5? for 5 h and 35 degree C for 16 h, respectively followed by adding 5.6 liters distilled water and the un-reacted KMn04 is neutralized by 20 liter 5% HCI and 2 liters. H202, the purification of graphite oxide involves the repeated sedimentation, decantation off and filling of distilled water in a specially designed glass storage tank, where the outlet is placed at a measured height and the cost- effective purification, technique provides recovery of -99.99% of the developed graphite oxide. |
