Abstract:
Biometric-based exploder of the present invention capable of identifying fingerprint of authorised shot firer to reduce misuse of the device and increase safety in mines. The present invention provides a capacitive discharge blasting exploder which functions by charging a capacitor from a battery, then discharging the capacitor in a safe and precise way through an external circuit to initiate detonator. The device has an inbuilt output resistance monitoring circuit to eliminate chance of misfire due to higher output circuit resistance. The device includes a pressure sensitive firing double switches which have to be pressed after finger print authentication to carry out the blasting. The exploder with fingerprint recognition function consists of an embedded microcontroller, converter circuit, rectification circuit, safe discharge circuit, authentication circuit and display unit. The fingerprint recognition module is used for identifying fingerprint of the authorised persons. If the fingerprints are verified then an authentication message is displayed on the LCD screen and if not, the circuit remains internally locked. The device can save twenty fingerprints in order to make sure that it is not misused by any person. The exploder is able to fire thirty or more shots in series with inbuilt high voltage firing control circuit and high capacity rechargeable battery for application in both underground and opencast mines. The exploder has increased safety of blasting by maintaining duration of firing current for 4 ms with the help of embedded microcontroller and capable of measuring continuity at maximum 20 mA current. The exploder is equipped with low battery indicator which gives warning when the battery is low and gets internally locked till the battery is charged or replaced. The exploder is capable of discharging internally if the firing has to be cancelled at any stage by turning the operating key to off position. The exploder is intrinsically safe and ingress protected for using in underground mines.
