Abstract:
The present invention deals with the economical processing of zinc dross for the recovery of zinc as different grades of high purity  salts. The process involves direct leaching of zinc dross (without any grinding or milling) in sulfuric acid solution and subsequent iron  removal by precipitation using lime. The precipitates consists of both ferric hydroxide and calcium sulfate, which can easily be used as  an ingredient for producing basic flux sinters, which are used in iron making process. The purified leaching solutions were taken for  crystallization of different zinc sulfates under appropriate conditions such as: crystallization temperature, solution pH and solution  specific gravity. It was observed that, controlled variation of these parameters yielddifferent forms of zinc sulfate salts like, zinc  sulfate (an-hydrous), zinc sulfate mononhydrate, zinc sulfate heptahydrate and zinc sulfate pentahydrate.
