| Abstract: | Present invention relates to a process for the recovery of metal values from spent neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets. A novel electrochemical method has been applied for the recovery of metal values from spent NdFeB magnet of wind turbines. The spent NdFeB magnet is electrochemically dissolved in organic acid by using spent magnet as anode. The electrochemical method used in the present invention enhances the dissolution of metal in comparison to conventional chemical dissolution. Another advantage of the method is no energy intensive pre-treatment processes such as crushing, grinding and high temperature roasting required for NdFeB magnet. This method also encourages the use of easily degradable organic acid in hydrometallurgical processes. In the applied method, rare earths and iron both are recovered simultaneously from magnet, and later on they are separated by solvent extraction process. The method is useful to produce mixed rare earth oxide of Neodymium, Praseodymium and Dysprosium of 99.3% purity. Iron oxide is also obtained as by-product, which has large Application and market value. | ||
