| Abstract: | The present invention discloses the crescent shape fixture for the honing of inner epitrochoidal profile component. The fixture with its characteristic shape, converts the epitrochoidal profile of the housing in to a circular profile thus providing the perfect shape for honing the component using a flexible hone tool. The component to be machined is fixed on the table of a radial milling machine and the honing fixture is assembled on the component. The flexible hone tool is now fixed on the spindle of the radial milling machine and it is rotated at a constant speed. The flexible hone is passed 6 -8 times through the work piece and the honing is accomplished. The honing fixture is now reversed to hone the other part of the work piece. The entire operation can be completed within 10 to 15 minutes. The highlight of this new process is the flexibility in using any vertical machine for the operation, low machining cost, minimal operator skill and relatively less machining time for completing the operation. | ||
