IPC Classification: B01D 35,00
Abstract: The present invention provides a portable instant water filter. The design of the unit is based on the principle of oxidation of raw turbid water to remove organic matter associated with turbidity, filtration through sand bed to remove turbidity and bring down the bacterial load and disinfection by chemical agent to provide safe potable water. The filter works on constant rate with increasing water head. As the residue accumulates due to turbidity removal, the sand bed imparts resistance and water head increases and flow is maintained. The filters can serve drinking and cooking water requirements on emergency basis and serves as disaster management tool for drinking water requirement under flood situations. One filter will serve a population of 20-30 persons when operated for 10 hours a day on the basis of 6-10 litres/day requirements for drinking and cooking purposes. The unit is simple to fabricate, easy to operate even by unskilled persons, requires minimum maintenance and needs no power. Each unit is provided with "Standard Operating Procedure"
