Abstract:
The rising plastic pollution and lack of  measures to manage them have resulted in massive land and water pollution, upsetting flora and fauna along with humans. There are reports where marine plastics have  been seen to enter food web and eventually into human system causing many acute illness and prominently acting as carcinogen. Substantial studies have been noted  where microbes have shown to degrade plastics but not many investigations have been done in marine plastic degrading microbes. In the current study, a novel bacterial  strain of Pseudoalteromonas sp. has been isolated which has demonstrated plastic eating properties not reported previously in any worldwide study. The reduction of  optical density and increase of weight loss percentage clearly shows the plastic degradation by these microbes. Therefore, this study offers an insight into the novel  procedure to monitor microbial activity on plastic that has not been reported yet not only regionally but also globally.
