| Abstract: | The solvothermal liquefaction of lignin was carried out using ethyl acetate-water as a solvent medium at 220, 240, 260 and 280 ?C reaction temperature, 15, 30 and 45 minute residence time and N2 as gaseous environments to produce bio oils with antimicrobial activities. The effect of reaction conditions was observed for lignin conversion and product bio-oil, bio-char and gas yields. Selectivity of various phenolic chemicals was affected by optimizing reaction conditions. The GC-MS analysis showed that bio-oils were a mixture of organic compounds which mainly includes substituted phenolic moieties like acetosyringone, 4-ethyl-2-methoxy-phenol, 2,6- dimethoxy-phenol,vanillin,and few more. Further, the bio-oil obtained was tested for antimicrobial activity against E coli, S aureus, P aeruginosa, Salmonella abony and Bacillus subtils and showed good antimicrobial activity. | ||
