| Abstract: | A bio-based epoxy formulation for coating on metallic surfaces The present invention provides the synergistic formulation of a bio-nanocomposites in epoxy medium with synergistic effect and broad-spectrum activity in antimicrobial action and synergistic anti-corrosion potential when applied on various metallic and alloy surfaces. The plant extracts used in the formulations are hydro-ethanolic extract of Azadiracta India, Elaphantopus scaber and Andrographis paniculata three plants belonging to three different families namely Meliaceae, Acanthaceae and Asteraceae. This smart coating is capable of preventing proliferation and propagation of various pathogens and thus helps in preventing contagious diseases. So, in the present scenario the invention provides an alternative, safe and efficient self-sanitizing composite coating to address the issue of spread of many contagious diseases. The use of many hazardous inorganic corrosion inhibitors is now being banned. In this contrast, this formulation is an effective solution with no side effects, cost-effective, eco-friendly and renewable sources. The present invention also discloses the detailed qualitative and quantitative screening of the coating with gram positive and negative bacterial strains. And the corrosion inhibition potential is analyzed with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization studies. |
