Title:

A Coating for the Management of Postharvest Rot of Apple

Value Proposition:

Our eco-friendly antifungal coating is a biodegradable, food-safe postharvest solution that protects apples from fungal decay while preserving their freshness and market quality. Formulated with natural antifungal compounds and biodegradable polymers, the coating forms a thin, edible protective barrier on the fruit surface that inhibits the growth of major postharvest pathogens, including Penicillium, Alternaria, and Aspergillus. This coating protects apples at 25±3 ℃ for around one month. Unlike conventional synthetic fungicides, it provides effective disease control without leaving harmful chemical residues, making it safer for consumers and the environment. The coating also helps reduce moisture loss and respiration, thereby maintaining fruit firmness, appearance, nutritional quality, and shelf life during storage and transportation. Compatible with existing postharvest handling practices, it offers a cost-effective and sustainable alternative for fruit producers, packhouses, exporters, and retailers seeking to reduce postharvest losses and improve fruit quality.

Summary Application:

The eco-friendly antifungal coating is an innovative postharvest preservation technology that effectively controls fungal decay, extends the storage life of apples at ambient temperature (±2-3℃), and maintains fruit quality without synthetic fungicides. It offers a safe, biodegradable, and commercially viable solution for growers, packers, exporters, and retailers, supporting sustainable postharvest management and reducing economic losses across the apple value chain. The technology is suitable for application in commercial apple orchards, packing houses, cold storage facilities, transportation systems, export supply chains, supermarkets, and retail markets. It can be easily integrated into existing postharvest operations through dipping method without requiring major infrastructure changes. By reducing reliance on synthetic fungicides, the coating provides a residue-free, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective solution that minimizes postharvest losses, improves food safety, and enhances the marketability of fresh apples.

Advantages:

1. Controls major postharvest fungal diseases
2. Eco-friendly and biodegradable formulation
3. Residue-free and safe for consumers
4. Extends apple shelf life
5. Reduces weight loss
6. Preserves fruit firmness, color, and quality
7. Reduces postharvest losses and improves profitability
8. Minimizes reliance on synthetic fungicides
9. Supports sustainable and environmentally responsible postharvest management
