Abstract:
Lanthanides play an important role in modern technology because of their outstanding optical, electronic, and magnetic properties.  The present invention discloses a covalent organic framework for carrying out the extraction and separation of the lanthanide ion in  aqueous solutions. This process is based on lanthanide complexation, and the observed binding parameters correlate with the  lanthanide ion contraction series. The binding process has been studied by monitoring the UV-Vis spectroscopy titrations,  Photoluminescence Titrations, and Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The compound of Formula-I has been successfully  tested for the separation of lanthanide elements and seems like a promising green technology, particularly suitable for urban mining.  The present invention also discloses a process for the preparation of the compound of Formula-I.
