| Abstract: | A device for invasive measurement of intra-compartmental pressure and depth of penetration for the diagnosis of compartment syndromes. The device comprises a pressure sensing module (200), a depth measurement module (300), a precise saline dispensing module (400), and a display and indication section (700). The connection between the syringe and the pressure sensor is made by means of an arrangement that includes a transducer protector and stopcock. The device further includes a mechanism to measure the depth of the needle insertion. The dispensing module ensures the dispensing of required saline into the limb compartment with precision and is designed to avoid the backlash of the syringe plunger while measuring the compartment pressure. The measured pressure along with the insertion depth is displayed by means of a display module. The complete device is compact for use, and its components are capable of reusable without the possibility of cross-contamination through its duct to the principal components. |
