| Abstract: | The present invention pertains to a method for extending the vase life of fresh-cut gerbera and carnation flowers using a dipping solution. By employing combining ingredients such as sucrose, sodium hypochlorite, aluminium sulfate, and silver thiosulfate, the invention addresses the challenge of short vase life in gerbera and carnation flowers. The dipping solution, prepared by mixing sucrose, sodium hypochlorite, aluminium sulfate, and silver thiosulfate in specific concentrations, demonstrates a 2-3x extension in shelf life. The solution is versatile, available in both liquid and solid forms, and can be easily applied to cut gerbera and carnation flowers. This innovation offers a sustainable solution for enhancing the longevity and freshness of gerbera and carnation flowers, reducing post harvest losses, and benefiting various stakeholders in the floral industry. |
