Abstract:
A dual band shared aperture antenna comprising conductive ground plane (40), a dielectric substrate mounted above ground plane, a patch radiator (80) placed on top of  substrate and a split & curved shape dipole antenna. Said shared aperture antennas can help to mitigate the issues of weight penalty and aerodynamic drag. The VHF  antenna and MODE-S antenna sharing a single aperture and VHF antenna provides two-way radio communication, MODE-S antenna for surveillance and  communication with air traffic controller (ATC). The invention provides an antenna that adopts foldable type and optimized dimensions, low di-electric constant  material being used in fabrication and having a Bi-layer system. The present invention is to provide a VHF antenna designed separately for the required band with 2.1:1  VSWR. And MODE-S antenna is designed separately for the required band with 2:1 VSWR. Said antenna size is compact, less weight and curved surface like belly of  aircraft.
