Abstract:
A Green Process for the Extraction of Crude Glycosaminoglycans From Fish Waste Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are polymeric  molecules present in animal tissues. They are used widely as a nutraceutical, cosmeceutical, pharmaceutical, regenerative medicine,  etc. China is the major exporter of glycosaminoglycans in the world. The fish waste generated from the fish processing industry is  disposed of in landfills and oceans, causing environmental problems. Valorisation of fish waste is one way of addressing the said  problem. In the present invention glycosaminoglycans which are inherent components of animal tissues, are isolated using a green,  eco-friendly process. This is unlike conventional extraction, which requires the usage of large amounts of chemicals. The extraction  protocol developed herein gives relatively higher yields upto 3 folds. Further, the developed process can be employed on dry and fresh  tissue as well.
