| Abstract: | The present invention provides a sensitive portable platform device integrated with a thermo-cycler with tunable fluorimeter and DNA probes for meat authentication, admixing and microbial contaminants. The developed method utilizes genomics-based DNA markers for meat authentication and adulteration in the assessment of the meat compliance with labeling regulations and policies. The DNA probes are designed to detect target mitochondrial/genomic DNA regions. Individual and multiplex fluorescence probes for different species have been developed. The developed device is suitable for use by a non-technical person with simplified sample processing steps and on-the-spot results. The species-specific, processed, and raw meat samples can be differentiated and identified for as low as 0.01% adulteration. The compact instrumentation with result ready technology/portability will enable regulators to test random samples in the field with high accuracy. |
