| Abstract: | The present invention discloses a continuous process for the direct capture of CO2 from the atmospheric air. This method involves the use of phase change amine (solid-liquid) absorbents with suitable solvents, yielding efficient CO2 capture from air. The method comprises the ensuing stages: (i) a continuous bubbling of air through amine solution within a multi-impeller absorber; (ii) the liquid amine absorbent, present in sufficient quantity and concentration, reacts with a significant portion of the CO2 present in the air; (iii) the solvent, present in sufficient quantity and concentration, dissolves the amine; (iv) subsequent formation of a solid-liquid slurry with absorbed CO2 in amine solution; (v) separation of solid from the amine solution in a solid-liquid separation tank; (vi) conveyance of the solid slurry to a desorber; (vii) CO2 desorption by jacketing the desorber with hot fluid or directly bubbling a fraction of the captured CO2 as hot fluid; (vii) subsequently raising the temperature to a degree suitable for effective desorption of CO2 from the solid slurry while simultaneously regenerating the amine; (ix) recycling the regenerated amine back to the absorber; and (x) compressing the desorbed CO2 gas suitable for sequestering or utilization. This cyclic approach establishes a continuous method for capturing CO2 directly from air, characterized by significantly reduced energy demand. |
