Abstract: The present invention provides a method for linalool synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae,. Here, the linalool synthase  gene from Magnolia champaca and Coriandrum sativum were codon optimized, McfLIS: SEQ ID 2 and CsfLIS: SEQ ID 7,  respectively, and were expressed in laboratory S. cerevisiae strain CEN.PK2-1C. Moreover, truncated variants of these two linalool  synthases were generated (MctLIS and CstLIS) by removal of plastid signal, and expressed in laboratory S. cerevisiae strain  CEN.PK2-1C to observe improved linalool synthesis. Also, co-expression of tHMG1 was carried along with McfLIS and MctLIS, on  a dual expression plasmid vector using constitutive promoters, pTEF and pPGK1 in S. cerevisiae strain CEN.PK2-1C.
