Abstract:
The invention is a method of metal extraction using reductive electro-bioleaching of oxide minerals. This method of mineral treatment allows non-acidophilic soil  bacterial consortia consisting of metal-reducing microorganisms growing at neutral pH to reduce the metal oxide mineral selectively, in the presence of controlled redox  potentials at which the organism efficiently reduces the oxide minerals. The described reactor arrangement simultaneously allows precise anaerobic conditions and  optimal agitation, enabling microbially assisted efficient electroreduction of oxide minerals. The invention is a scalable and cost-effective method of extraction of  critical metals from their oxide forms and minerals.
