| Abstract: | A nano-phase separated multi element low silica bismuth-doped optical fiber A nano-phase separated multielement low silica bismuth-doped optical fiber for broadband (1100-1600 nm) ASE source is presented. The core glass is composed of oxides of Al, Ge, P, Pb, Ga, and Bi within a low silica  (21.5–26.0 wt%) matrix fabricated through MCVD coupled with a solution doping technique where a (60-70%) porous germania-phosphorous-silica layer of 8.0-10.0 µm thickness soaked with a supersaturated solution at 65-70oC using an externally heated U-shaped solution doping chamber at 65-70oC. The obtained preform was further annealed within 1200- 125oC for 120 minutes, maintaining an optimized heating and cooling rate of 5oC/min prior to fiber drawing in order to achieve nano-phase separation within the fiber core containing an average particle size of 5.0-10.0nm and produce an emission within 1100-1600 nm when pumped at 1070 nm with flatness of ±5.0 dB to serve as broad-band ASE source for bio-imaging application and as optical amplifier. |
