| Abstract: | Present work relates to incorporation of select quantity of graphite powder (size: 1-20 m) into commercially available thermoplastic polyurethane granules for making anticorrosive, relatively light weight and flexible composite through a bottom poring melt quenching process at a selected temperature of (220?100C) involving a newly designed reactor/smelter. Said process facilitated improvement of mechanical and anti-corrosion properties of TPU-graphite based composites. This simple, straightforward and cost effective bottom poring melt quenching process produced material of improved comfort and shock-absorption ability primarily suitable for jogging shoe outsole, walking shoe midsole, safety shoes, slippers and sandals. The invented polyurethane-graphite composite material has a density of 1.14 ? 0.04 g/cc, a tensile stress of 4.77?0.2 MPa. Select composite with 0.3% graphite powder in TPU composition showed Hardness Shore A: 79 (IRHD value: 83) and 83 (IRHD value: 87). Regarding anticorrosion property of the inventive composite, no visible change was observed in appearance (colour) which connotes scale Grade: 5 after 100 h of salt spray. Figure 1. |
