The present disclosure relates to a process for the preparation of bempedoic acid or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts. The main strategy involves preparing the keto  diacid intermediate through hydrolysis of ketene intermediate to produce bempedoic acid, thereby avoiding the use of the dialkylation of p-toluenesulfonyl methyl  isocyanide (TosMIC) reagent. The present disclosure also provided intermediates for the preparation of bempedoic acid.
