Abstract:
The present invention discloses a process to reduce the content of iodide and bromide in harvested solar salt (I- 100 ppb & Br- 200 ppm) during solar  salt production in solar salt pans, which cannot be achieved through other means of purification such as washings. The process comprises of chemical treatment of brine  either with trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) alone or combination with hydrochloric acid. The process is suitable for both sea & sub-soil brines used for common salt  productions and can be implemented in the existing salt works without any additional alternation of salt works. The method is particularly useful for production of high  purity salt desired for chlor-alkali industries.
