| Abstract: | The present invention provides a cost-effective and simple process for the preparation of Fe-Ca composite derived from red mud and egg-shell to be utilized for simultaneous removal of As(V) and Fe(II)/Fe(III) from water. Instead of using any iron and calcium based salts, the Fe-Ca composite is prepared from red mud extract and NH4OH under hydrothermal process followed by mixing with egg shell particles, wherein both the raw materials are a waste. The composite material shows improved adsorption efficiency for the removal of water contaminants due to synergistic effects of porous iron and calcium components. The product reveals enhanced adsorption efficiencies for the simultaneous removal of As(V) and Fe(II)/Fe(III) in the range of 55.67-99.32% and 52-95%, respectively for the sample dose in the range of 0.25-4 g/L for 120 min at pH 7±2 (30°C), and the removal efficacy in the range of 83.01-99.31% and 70.34-91.6%, respectively for the contaminant concentrations in the range of 5-20 mg/L for 120 min at pH 7±2 (30°C). |
