Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for cellulose  production in high yield from a novel isolated bacterial strain of Komagataeibacter rhaeticus MCC 0157 such that the cellulose membranes or pellicles are obtained in  high concentrations and wherein the BC obtained has high water absorption capacity and crystallinity index. The bacterial cellulose obtained by the present process  possesses potential for use as a tissue scaffold material, dental, in fabric designing and in separating/purifying the contaminated water from oil.
