| Abstract: | The invention relates to a system and process for the determination of the color index of lac, which is an important parameter for the determination of quality of lac. The device and process claimed in the invention are novel, quick (gives reading within 5 seconds), green (saves solvent), accurate, precise, electronic, portable, and does not require skilled manpower as compared to the conventional manual method. The device consists of a test cell wherein, a predetermined amount of the alcoholic solution of lac is kept for (the determination of color index) colorimetric analysis. The color spectra of the sample are acquired, which measures degree of color intensity and a data acquisition system wherein, the temporal response of the spectra at ambient temperature is acquired using an analog-to-digital convertor and the acquired temporal signal is then processed using signal processing and modeling techniques to improve signal-to-noise ratio correlating spectral signal at an ambient temperature to the color index of the lac. |
