| Abstract: | The present invention relates to a process for the production of iron-carbon-silicon-copper (FeCSiCu) alloy and a secondary slag to make higher compressive strength cement by recycling copper-containing Fe2SiO4 rich copper smelter slag. The developed FeCSiCu alloy is useful in foundry grade and special steel and iron alloying applications. The recycling process employs coal as the sole reductant in an electric arc furnace and avoids using conventional coke reductants. The coal having more than 30% ash reduces the molten iron silicate and magnetite in slag to generate metallic iron acting as a solvent for the reduced copper oxides. The slag is formed by binding silica and alumina originating from copper slag and coal ash with the added lime. The granulated secondary slag, thus formed in smelting, gives rise to superior compressive strength when mixed with clinker and water. | ||
