Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for temporary preservation of hide/skin. Treatment of amine based preservation composition on the flesh side of the freshly flayed hide/skin, alters the pH and moisture conditions during the course of preservation and prevents bacterial contamination. The application of the amine based preservation composition finds immense application in tanning industry as it reduce the subsequent rehydration process duration/water consumption, generates degradable process effluent and most importantly TDS is reduced by averting the use of common salt. The preserved hide/skin can find use not only in leather manufacture but also other applications targeting the utilization of collagenous products.
