| Abstract: | The present invention relates to a novel process for the enzymatic conversion of substituted picoline to corresponding substituted picolinic acid. The process uses O2 as the clean and green oxidant, oxidoreductase enzyme, and catalytic amount of mediator (2 mol%) in aqueous buffer conditions for facilitating the conversion. The products have been obtained in excellent yields (83- 95%) and selectivity. The method is shown to be tolerant to various substituents on the pyridine ring and can potentially be extended to the synthesis of myriads of aromatic and heteroaromatic carboxylic acid derivatives. |
