Title:

An Improved Internal Reforming Solid Oxide Fuel Cell and a Process for Fabrication Thereof

Value Proposition:

Solid oxide fuel cell, single cell is capable of reducing the carbon deposition to the extent of 50 to 75% and consuming the remaining carbon during operation, thereby increasing the life span of fuel cell.

Summary Application:
  • The internal reforming SOFC of the present invention utilizes the hydrocarbon fuel directly.
  • The present invention discloses anode compositions having reduced carburization rate thereby enhancing the working life of product.
  • SOFC of the present invention is capable of operating ≥ 800oC to enable the reforming of fuel.
  • Present invention provides a simple, cost-effective and industrially scalable process for fabricating internal reforming anode supported SOFC.
  • Present invention eliminates tedious leaching and infiltration steps as reported in prior-art.

Application Sector: Energy

Advantages:
  1. The solid oxide fuel cell uses hydrocarbon fuel tolerant anode
  2. Anode as thin as 300 µm
  3. Electrolyte as thin as 10 µm
  4. Co-casted electrolyte – anode tapes for improved manufacturability
