| Abstract: | The present invention relates to an integrated membrane and resin system for the production of ultrapure methanol for pharmaceutical and electronic-grade applications. The process aids in the purification of laboratory-grade methanol using an indigenously developed Nanofiltration (NF; close to reverse osmosis) membrane and treating the product with Indion MB 6 SR ion exchange resin to adsorb the leftover metal contaminants. The present innovation discloses the performance of a developed semi- permeable membrane with mixed bed resin in terms of flux, recovery of methanol, and % rejection of metal ions. The synthesized membrane assists in the selective transport of solvent molecules by rejecting the larger, suspended, and dissolved particles based on the molecular sieving and solution diffusion mechanisms. In addition to this, a resin post-treatment method helps to remove the trace metals and acts as a polishing step to produce high-purity methanol. |
