 Technology Profile

Title:

Anticorrosive Treatment for Steel Reinforcement Rods

Value Proposition:

Indigenously available L.R. quality chemicals with 90-96% assay.

Summary Application:
  • It offers higher corrosion resistance due to the inhibitors added to it.
  • By using this technology, the service life of concrete structures increased by several folds.
  • It does not affect the bond strength in RCC structures.
  • The chemicals to be used are available indigenously.
Advantages:

Properties of the coating:

Thickness      : 0.3 ± 0.1 mm

Hardness       : Rockwell superficial 40 HR 15N

Bonding strength   : No adverse effect. In fact the strength is improved.

Behaviour under load : The coating starts cracking only when the steel begins to yield i.e., 2800 kg/cm2.

 Corrosion resistance of coated steel ;

 Salt spray test           :           > 2000 hours.

Immersion in synthetic sea water: > 30 days.

Immersion in 10% ammonium sulphate: >15 days.

Exposure at Mandapam     :           6 months.

Exposure at Karaikudi        :           > 26 months
