| Abstract: | The present invention relates to bio-based bisphenol monomer of formula I and process of preparation thereof. Specifically, the present invention relates to bio-based bisphenol monomers of formula I containing multiple alkoxyl groups, and polyphenols. The bisphenol monomers of formula I contain built-in methoxyl groups, which represent latent phenolic hydroxyl groups and could conveniently be de-blocked to phenolic hydroxyl groups leading to formation of polyphenols containing catechol/phloroglucinol units with anti-oxidant properties and are potentially useful in various applications like cosmetics, polymer additives and so on. Further, the present invention relates to process of preparation of polymers using bisphenol monomer of formula I as valuable building blocks wherein the high performance thermoplastics are poly(ether sulfone)s, poly(ether ether ketone)s, polyesters, polycarbonates, polyphosphonates, etc. and thermosetting resins are epoxies, cyanate esters, phthalonitriles, propargyl ethers, etc. Formula I |
