Abstract: The present invention relates to the separation of gas mixtures using a composite membrane comprising of bimetallic oxide  nanoparticles (MgNiO2) and a biopolymeric solution of cellulose acetate. More particularly, the present invention relates to the  preparation of bimetallic-oxide (MgNiO2)-nanoparticles using a simple precipitation method and the fabrication of the composite  membrane by the impregnation of nanoparticles into the biopolymeric solution through phase inversion. The membrane thus prepared  exhibited excellent permeability and selectivity to different gas mixtures like hydrogen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and methane.
