| Abstract: | The present invention provides an innovative approach to road construction by incorporating Imperial Smelting Furnace Slag (ISFS) into bituminous mixes. ISFS is a by-product of the pyrolysis process involved in the extraction of zinc and lead metals. The study encompasses a comprehensive evaluation of ISFS and its compatibility with various grades of bituminous mixes, specifically Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) Grade I & II, and Bituminous Concrete (BC) Grade I & II. The study also revealed that the ISFS- bituminous mixes exhibited superior mechanical properties, including higher Marshall Stability and Resilient Modulus, compared to conventional mixes. This study offers significant advantages, such as conservation of natural fine aggregates, reduced environmental impact, and economic benefits. It presents ISFS as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative for road construction, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and resource conservation. |
