| Abstract: | The present invention provides brine sludge derived flexible and moldable composition for radiation shielding applications and a process for the preparation thereof. The developed process encompasses mixing of tungsten oxide, brine sludge, which naturally has several alkalies and alkaline earth metals compounds, like magnesium hydroxide, barium sulfate, calcium carbonate, silica, sodium chloride, aluminum-containing compounds, etc. with sodium hexametaphosphate for making unique homogeneous nanoscopic, and phased radiation shielding material. This material was further mixed with natural rubber to develop flexible and moldable brine sludge based materials useful as X-ray shielding materials of variable magnitudes i.e. shape and size. The present invention finds immense application in various areas, especially in radiation shielding applications, such as in diagnostic radiation installations like diagnostic X-rays and CT scanner rooms, in the form of either generic use, shielding full coat aprons, half apron, thyroid shield, head covers, shielding neck bands, etc. | ||
