 Technology Profile

Title:

Ceramic Membrane

Value Proposition:

Asymmetric ceramic membranes possess unique advantages over polymeric counterparts in micro/ultrafiltration applications by virtue of properties like high chemical, mechanical and thermal stability. Indigenisation of ceramic membrane development in the country is being realised through a DST project by partners CSIR-CGCRI, CSIR-NIIST and M/s Prism Johnson Ltd, Mumbai and a pre-pilot plant is established for the manufacture of 19 channelled 1.2 m long, alumina based ceramic membranes for microfiltration. A clear water flux of 100-200 LMH is achieved through appropriate membrane layer depositions. Market sensitisation trials are in progress

Summary Application:

Juice clarification, industrial water recycling, waste water treatment, Filtration

Advantages:

Ceramic Membranes possess high longevity in application due to high chemical, mechanical and thermal stability. It can also be subjected to severe conditions of back flushing for flux regeneration
