| Title: | CIM-Larvishield Novel Polymeric Bead Formulation for Mosquito Larvicidal Action |
| Value Proposition: | Most of the available mosquito larvicidal products contain hazardous chemicals such as; chlorinated hydrocarbons, organic phosphates (organophosphates), carbamates, pyrethroids, and permethrin. However, persistent usage of these products produce resistance and have a harmful impact on humans and the environment. Thus, there is a need to develop the product using plants that are biodegradable, eco-friendly, and non-toxic to humans. Using essential oils derived from plants can be a potential alternative to control mosquitoes and might solve the problems associated with products that contain hazardous chemicals. As per the available literature, plant-based leads are a safe and effective option for managing mosquitoes, and their acceptance among consumers is high compared to synthetic products. |
| Summary Application: | The used fennel oil is a food-grade oil. Fennel is a traditional and well-known aromatic plant with a long history of medicinal use and is among the most widespread medicinal plants worldwide. Fennel oil has shown effectiveness against mosquito larvae and can be considered as an alternative for mosquito larvicidal activity. Encapsulation of fennel oil using polymeric beads has proven to be a good approach to reduce the fennel oil volatility resulting in enhanced stability, efficacy, and prolonged delivery of fennel oil. This formulation is effective in killing the mosquito larvae. |
