| Abstract: | Disclosed herein is a light weight leather of 400 to 500 GSM, that exhibits cold resistance up to minus 30 degree C. The developed leather finds application in consumer product industries, especially in the strategic sector that requires extremely low temperature compliant products. It is suitable for making garments and glove leathers to be used at sub-zero temperature conditions. Thus, it enables self-reliance and evades the dependence of the strategic and civilian sector on other countries for the procurement of protective garments and gloves. A process for making the cold resistant light weight leather for multipurpose industrial applications is also provided, wherein judicial choice of fat liquor, retanning and tanning agents coupled with judicious process parameters such as pH, are employed. Thus, the process finds application in the leather processing industry catering to the need of specialized leathers for the product sector. |
