| Abstract: | The present invention describes the design of low-cost ionizers operated in batch and continuous modes for the production of alkaline water for drinking and medical purposes. The device consists of a titanium-based cathode electrode and mixed metal oxide-coated titanium electrodes as an anode. The feed water of TDS ranging from 250-350 ppm is pre-filtered for removal of turbidity, color, and odor. The clarified water is passed through the anode and cathode chambers separated by high flux nanofiltration (NF) membrane/ microporous polyethylene terephthalate for ion transfer. The supply of voltage of 9-36 V facilitates the splitting of the water molecule and the movement of cations across the barrier from anode to cathode. |
