| Abstract: | The present invention provides novel water-soluble compositions comprising sesquiterpene coumarin enriched components for the treatment of parkinson's disease by inhibition of MAO enzymes (MAO-up>A and MAO-B). These sesquiterpene coumarin-enriched fractions contain different proportions of sesquiterpene coumarins derived from ferula. The invention also provides a method for preparing the ethyl acetate extract and the sesquiterpene coumarin enriched component from the resina ferulae (Hing), namely the oleoresin of the aeda salsa by using a silica gel column chromatography, wherein the mobile phase in the chromatography consists of hexane, toluene, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol with different proportions. The present invention provides a method for preparing a formulation using a multi-step process comprising preparing a sesquiterpene coumarin enriched component and then preparing a water soluble formulation. The final composition has improved water solubility, long-term stability, MAO inhibition activity and improved drug compliance. |
