 Technology Profile

Title:

Development of Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Block

Value Proposition:

Manufacture of  Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Block from Calcium salt and phosphate salts, ammonium solution(NH3), Distilled water and polymer.

Summary Application:

The biphasic calcium block can be used as bone grafts/scaffolds

Advantages:
  • A simple and cost effective process for the synthesis of three dimensional bioactive synthetic bone grafts possessing both bioactivity and mechanical strength.
  • Results in three dimensional BCP nanocomposites blocks for implant(s) having, cell adhesion, cellular metabolic activity and mechanical compressive strength in the range of human cancellous bone.
  • The process completely avoids gel casting in synthesizing porous 3D BCP scaffolds, so as to obtain 3D load bearing BCP blocks without requiring energy intensive processes.
  • In comparison to reported mechanical compressive strength of BCP scaffolds the present invention provides BCP blocks of higher mechanical compressive strength.
  • The process does not use porogen and binder to prepare porous BCP scaffolds, which may generate toxic chemicals after the implantation of the scaffolds in the body.
