| Abstract: | A double pivot bistable platform assembly for achieving quasi zero stiffness vibration isolation suitable for low frequency vibration isolation is provided. The double pivot bistable platform assembly has minimalistic approach consisting of just three symmetrical parts namely a flexible platform (1), a base holder (10) and a folding beam (13). The flexible platform (1) which is the key component with varying thickness cross section resulting in enhanced bistability effect under transverse loads. With this enhanced bistability effect, we achieve a distinct well-defined negative stiffness region. Thus, the flexible platform (1) exhibiting negative stiffness is connected in parallel with the folding beam (13) exhibiting positive stiffness to achieve a quasi-zero stiffness under appropriate load. The double pivot bistable platform assembly under this quasi zero stiffness region exhibits a very low natural frequency thus widening the isolation frequency scope of the system making it suitable for low frequency vibration isolation. |
