Abstract:
The present invention relates to an eco-friendly oxygen scavenging material for use in reducing the oxygen levels in the headspace of a container or package. The  scavenging material is made from natural rubber, silica powder, and is activated by a food-grade catalyst- magnesium stearate. The material has a high oxygen  scavenging capacity of 98cc/g of the optimized scavenging material (3000 cc/g of the natural rubber), achieved through the incipient wetness impregnation method. The  use of natural sources and food-grade catalysts make the sachet environmentally friendly and safe for food packaging. The developed scavenging material has  significant potential to reduce the oxygen sensitive product losses and improve safety, making it a sustainable option for any oxygen-sensitive product. This invention  brings high expectations to the food packaging industry, with its efficient and nature-friendly approach to reducing oxygen levels. Also, this invention will be useful for  anaerobic studies.
