| Abstract: | The present invention relates to a palladium-metal (Pd-M) alloy-based electrocatalyst system for the concurrent electrochemical oxidation of biomass-derived components and green hydrogen generation. More specifically, the invention enables the selective oxidation of disaccharides such as lactose, maltose, sucrose, and other C12 molecules into oxygenated organic compounds, with formate being the predominant product under optimized conditions. The electrocatalyst operates efficiently in alkaline media at low applied potentials and moderate current densities (1-40 mA/cm²), facilitating high conversion rates and selectivity. The process is compatible with both batch and continuous flow electrolyzer setups and demonstrates long-term operational stability, making it suitable for scalable and sustainable energy and biomass valorization applications. |
