 Technology Profile

Title:

Electrochemical preparation of Sodium Hypochlorite(1.0 % NaOCl) Disinfectant

Value Proposition:

Sodium hypochlorite[0.8-1.0% NaOCl] is prepared from sodium chloride solution by electrochemical method in an undivided electrochemical cell with dimensionally stable anode (DSA-Cl2) and stainless steel/titanium cathode at a current density of 100 mA/cm2 and temperature of 300C.

Summary Application:

Sodium hypochlorite (1%NaOCl) is mainly used as disinfectant (applicable to COVID-19) to kill the biologically active viruses and bacteria. It is also used in industries for surface purification, fabric bleaching, odour removal and water disinfection.

Advantages:
  • On-site generation
  • No environmental hazards (like storage and transportation of liquid chlorine
  • No addition of chemicals
  • No spent reagent disposal
Commercialization Status: Already Commercialised
