| Abstract: | This system comprises of a multitude of modified cantilever based FBG vibration sensors, optical fiber feed-through, optical couplers and a signal processing system developed using a single wideband source and standard CCD based linear detector array for wavelength monitoring with wavelength resolution of the order of 1 pm. The sensor housing and cantilever are made up of a ceramic material. A single FBG is fixed between two blocks on the cantilever. The material and dimensions of the components of the sensor are chosen so as to achieve the required sensitivity and resonance frequency to cover the desired measurement range. The displacement measurement range is 10 µm (p-p) to 1 mm (p-p) and the frequency bandwidth is 30 Hz to 500 Hz. The sensor response in terms of Bragg wavelength shift is proportional to the acceleration. A Labview based software was developed to acquire and record the Bragg wavelength of the FBG sensors from the CCD based wavelength monitor and to convert the Bragg wavelength shift to acceleration using calibration data of the sensor.
