 Technology Profile

Title:

Fly ash and Limestone Calcined Clay-based Mixtures for Concrete 3D Printing

Value Proposition:

This technology offers a sustainable, cost-effective, and high-performance material system for 3D concrete printing by partially replacing cement (15–25%) with a synergistic blend of limestone powder, calcined clay, fly ash, and silica fume. It significantly reduces CO₂ emissions (up to 30–40%) and material cost while maintaining excellent printability, mechanical strength, and durability. The solution addresses a key industry challenge — reducing the carbon footprint of 3D printable concretes without sacrificing performance or scalability.

Summary Application:
  • On-site printing of load-bearing walls, slabs, and structural components.
  • Rapid-deployment shelters for disaster relief, defence, and low-cost housing.
  • Repair and retrofit overlays using 3D-printed layers for enhanced performance.
  • Applicable to automated and robotic construction platforms.
Advantages:
  • Compressive strength (40 MPa) suitable for structural-grade components.
  • Enables support-less printing of complex geometries.
  • Excellent extrudability, pumpability, buildability, and shape retention.
  • Compatible with robotic and gantry-based 3D printing systems.
