Title:

Foil Bearing Technology (Bump Foil Bearing & Wear Resistant Coating) for High Speed Rotor Applications

Value Proposition:

 

Successful design , development and demonstration of foil bearings for high speed and low load applications for the speeds more than 1Lakh rpm at rig level. Maximum weight of the rotor demonstrated is 3kg upto the speed of 40,000 rpm.

Summary Application:

The radial continuous bump foil bearing is developed and tested in laboratory, which can cater to high speed application up to 100000 rpm. The desired infrastructure for the making these foil bearings is available in the Propulsion Division.The wear-resistant composite coating developed by Surface Engineering division has been successfully tested in the rotary engine of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. One of the coatings developed was found to be suitable for reciprocating engine of the automobile industry.

 

Advantages:
  1. The approximate cost of imported system is about 30% more than the indigenous ultra-high speed rotors.
  2. There is an in direct FE saving of the Indian Market
  3. Indigenous system enables development of Tier-1 & 2 (Small & Micro industries) suppliers and generates employment as well.
  4. Eliminates dependency on imported system and indigenous manufacturing would support ‘Make in India’ and strengthens the development of Indian industries and MSMES.
